We are so glad that Ronald McDonald House, Liverpool is helping families just like Steven’s. Huge thanks to his mum, Jade, for sharing her story.
“When my son Steven was just 13 days old, he was transferred to Alder Hey hospital from Manchester due to his condition. He has tetralogy of fallot, which means he has double holes in his heart along with other defects. On the way to Liverpool, we were told to prepare for the worst – the transport team told us they never usually saw babies so poorly.
As soon as we arrived we were given a room at Ronald McDonald House Liverpool. It took away the huge worry about where we would stay, being so far from home.
We stayed there for a month while Steven was recovering from surgery and have been back since. We had family meals there and staff even held bingo nights as entertainment for the families. The meals were a big help, as sometimes you don’t have the energy to cook or just forget to eat.
The staff at Ronald McDonald House Liverpool (Mac House) were so supportive and caring towards us all. We had everything we needed, and it is a bit of normality away from the ward. My mum was able to come to stay and my other kids were able to come to stay. It helped Steven with his recovery having his family around him. Steven is at a stable point now, but will need more surgery in the future.
When you are supporting your child you need to keep yourself well and Ronald McDonald House Liverpool does that. Being able to stay there made a huge difference to our family.”
