Our volunteers are vitally important to us here at Mac House, and help us with the everyday tasks to keep the house running smoothly.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds – companies looking to place volunteers as part of their corporate responsibility, individual volunteers who would like to pop in and help for a few hours if they have some spare time on their hands, and retired volunteers who are able to offer help on a regular basis and share their valuable skills.
There are plenty of ways you can help, if you are considering becoming a volunteers at Mac House. With 84 rooms we always have a lot of jobs to do!
Some ways you could help us are:
Helping with the weekly family meal
Organising a bag pack
Taking part in a fundraising event
Spreading the word about the work we do
Pauline Fairclough has been a Mac House volunteer for 12 years.
‘I originally decided I’d volunteer for a year, and that year turned into 12 years! I enjoy looking after the garden, and making it nice for the families who stay here. It is a sanctuary for the parents, and a place to relax. I like chatting to families while I am gardening. Sometimes people share their stories with me. I love volunteering at Mac House. It is therapeutic for me, and the staff here are very welcoming and supportive. I’d say to anyone who is thinking about volunteering, that you may give a lot but you will definitely get a lot back.’
Our garden always looks wonderful with Pauline’s magic touch – especially the tomatoes!
And as if all this doesn’t help persuade you to join with us in making a big difference for our families and their kids, then read here why your support matters. Through the funds you raise and the assistance you give, a child’s recovery from serious, often life threatening illness, can be made a lot easier and more comfortable.
